Speed competes in the perilous Great Alpine Race after a challenge from Snake Oiler, a stunt driver affiliated with the Car Acrobatic Team. The extreme risks of the mountain contest provoke strong objections from his crew chief, Sparky, straining their relationship to the breaking point. Even Racer X, also known as the Masked Racer, advises Speed to avoid the event. Compounding these interpersonal conflicts, Speed faces significant mechanical challenges as Pops becomes severely ill while attempting to prepare the Mach 5 for the competition.
