After finishing work, Kogoro Mouri hears a scream in the Kouri-machi residential area and discovers Ritsuo Esaka slumped on the ground. Esaka explains that he was waiting at a traffic light when someone pushed him from behind, nearly causing a collision with a car. Later, Conan and Kogoro interview Esaka at the detective agency. They learn that Esaka has suffered from memory loss for a full year. This gap in his recollection suggests he might have committed an action during that blank period that created a grudge against him, prompting the investigation into the incident and the potential motive behind the attack.
