Conan and Yumi discover Yasuaki Genda murdered in Hideyoshi’s apartment, where a damaged Shogi board lies nearby. Mizuna Katsumata, Sachiko Uryu, and Kosuke Hishinuma claim an alibi based on the temperature of items they purchased while out. Police suspect a serial pattern due to a similar board found at Kimiharu Nishikido’s death scene. The group originally included Kinji Uryu, who died by suicide, leaving Yuhei Kishimoto depressed. The three newcomers joined after his death. Suspicion arises regarding Kishimoto’s home, as the group monitored it for smoke, potentially linking the events to his personal tragedy and the study group's history.
