Conan and Kogoro meet Takayuki Katsuro, an accounting firm manager with six months to live, alongside his wife Sayaka Katsuro and secretary Ken Makinoura. Days later, Takayuki is found dead in his home bathroom with slit wrists. Although Sayaka and Makinoura had left for an errand that morning and returned in the evening, they deny he would commit suicide due to his illness. His friend Yoji Kanda arrives after receiving a call from Takayuki the previous night, during which Takayuki expressed resentment toward someone. As investigators examine the case, rumors spread that Katsuro's ghost appeared in the town. Additionally, real estate agent Shoto Oshikawa emerges as a suspect in the unfolding mystery surrounding the manager's death.
