Sonoko invites Ran to a gathering hosted by real estate manager Kensaku Takada, prompting Conan to accompany them because Kogoro is away drinking with the neighborhood association. At the event, the group meets Kensaku and his wife, Konomi. Kensaku mentions practicing karate in college and strikes poses while talking, inadvertently revealing an expensive watch under his sleeve. He summons his maid, Rika, for drinks, but she spills them on him, causing him to nearly strike her before Konomi intervenes. Kensaku leaves to change clothes, followed shortly by Konomi heading to the powder room. Conan observes a worried man holding his phone intently before that man also exits the room.
