Conan identifies the suspicious woman as his mother, Yukiko Kudo, who volunteers as a decoy to help uncover evidence. Yusuko appears at Sapporo Station to reveal that passenger Toshinori Kaetsu is the murderer. Kaetsu killed Yasuji, rigged the window, and hung the corpse outside using fishing line. He then disguised himself as Yasuji, shot Keitaro, and jumped from the train to frame the victim. Kaetsu confesses that Keitaro and Yasuji robbed his jewelry store and murdered his girlfriend. He admits to stealing Yusuko’s unfinished novel to plan the crimes. The police arrest Kaetsu after finding the disguise in his luggage. Yukiko and Yusuko subsequently return to Los Angeles together.
