Following a burglary report from Detective Takagi, the Detective Boys visit a pond where animal control officers are capturing an abandoned alligator snapping turtle. They encounter the original owner, Kimata, who is surprised by Nihonmatsu’s claim that the turtle belongs to him. Nihonmatsu explains he wishes to raise the animal to atone for mistreating his own pet green turtle in his youth, and Kimata consents. However, when officers discover four snapping turtles in total, Nihonmatsu decides to keep all of them. His peculiar remarks regarding the turtles raise Conan’s suspicions, prompting further investigation into his true motives and connection to the earlier burglary case.
