Selma Sebastian displays a replica of the Black Star, claiming the genuine gem belongs to the most suitable wearer. During Latham Laney’s card trick, Rachel retrieves a note from Phantom Thief, causing panic and harmless explosions among the replicas. In the chaos, Selma’s Black Star is stolen. Conan deduces that Rachel is the thief because her description of the gem’s “peacock” luster referenced her maiden name, Peacock, and notes the real pearl is dull due to age. He confronts Rachel, who holds the incriminating card, and destroys her phone to stop her escape. Phantom Thief, disguised as police, returns the pearl and flees using a flash bomb. The real Rachel is later discovered sleeping in a lifeboat.
