Richard, hospitalized for a knee injury, claims to witness a murder, but his doctor, Charles Yanning, attributes this to medication hallucinations. After Dr. Bill Hindman is found stabbed, Richard is suspected of the crime. Conan Edogawa investigates and determines Richard was deceived by a light trick. Conan tranquilizes Richard to expose the truth: Yanning used a CPR dummy and lighting to make Richard believe he was insane. Yanning killed Hindman, staged the fourth incident using the corpse, and struck Richard to plant the murder weapon. He created a false alibi by using an answering machine to simulate a conversation with Nurse Nolan. Evidence revealed Yanning’s fingerprints were absent from his coffee cup, whereas Nolan’s were present, contradicting his claim of being in his office. Yanning confessed that Hindman was blackmailing him regarding a promotion to head surgeon and was subsequently arrested.
