Tsubasa reveals that Gaen intended for Shinobu to become the Polar Shrine god, but Koyomi's interference caused Nadeko to assume the role instead. Suspecting Nadeko lacks genuine affection for Koyomi, Tsubasa questions Kaiki's ability to execute his plan. Kaiki confirms Oshino has no family, casting doubt on Ougi's existence. He spends days visiting Nadeko with gifts until graduation. After Hitagi demands he leave the city, Kaiki meets Yotsugi, who warns him that Nadeko cannot be deceived. Kaiki admits to manipulating Hitagi's mother's divorce to protect her daughter. At the shrine, Kaiki lies that Koyomi, Hitagi, and Shinobu died in an accident, but Nadeko immediately sees through the deception.
