Ep. 22: Kaiki accepts Hitagi's payment to investigate Nadeko's disappearance in Okinawa.
Aired on December 1, 2013

Kaiki agrees to assist Hitagi for ¥100,000, and they depart Okinawa on separate flights to avoid suspicion. Posing as a father of a classmate, he infiltrates Nadeko's home to search for clues. He finds that Nadeko only had photos of herself, lacked friends, and her parents ignored her request to open her closet, indicating she was spoiled. After speaking with Hitagi, Kaiki visits the Polar Snake Shrine. Upon donating, a cheerful Nadeko appears, noting Kaiki is her first visitor despite her renovation efforts. She confirms her twisted view of unrequited love and her intent to kill Koyomi and Hitagi. Kaiki leaves her with yarn for cat's cradle, promising to return before she perfects any patterns.
