Ep. 9: Koyomi and Shinobu face a deserted city caused by saving Mayoi

Koyomi and Shinobu return to the present to find the city deserted, realizing this resulted from saving Mayoi's life in the past. After finding a newspaper dated during the "Tsubasa Cat" events, they attempt to return to the shrine to travel back in time. Oshino has replaced the charm, blocking their powers, and they are soon surrounded by undead at night. Upon escaping, Shinobu deduces that the undead are former vampires who lost their master, herself. She concludes that her past flight led Mayoi to help Koyomi find her, preventing their friendship. Without this bond, Koyomi failed to find Shinobu, was killed by the Cursed Cat, and Shinobu triggered a global vampire infection before her death. They use fireworks to signal survivors but attract the undead again.
