Shikamaru deduces that Kakuzu possesses five hearts, requiring each to be destroyed for victory, and determines that separating him from Hidan is essential. He employs Shadow Possession Jutsu to guide Hidan into a dense forest. Meanwhile, Kakuzu merges two hearts to form a single entity and prepares to confront Kakashi, Ino, and Choji to obtain a replacement heart. In the forest, Shikamaru has placed Hidan among numerous explosive tags. The jutsu is canceled when Hidan appears to strike Shikamaru with his spear. Believing Shikamaru is injured, Hidan drinks the spilled blood and prepares to perform a curse ritual to kill him. This event occurs during the Akatsuki Suppression Mission arc, specifically episode 14 of 17.
