Ep. 52: Yamaoka and Kaibara compete with fish and lamb brains for wealthy Kyogoku
Aired on December 12, 1989

Mr Kyogoku invites Yamaoka and Kurita to a Tokyo fugu restaurant where Kaibara insults Yamaoka. When the establishment cannot serve fugu shirako, upsetting a couple departing for the Middle East, Yamaoka and Kaibara promise alternatives at the Gourmet Club. Yamaoka travels to Toyama to procure fresh Pacific cod, presenting both raw and cooked tara shirako to high praise. Kaibara counters with torafugu from Simonoseki, which guests prefer. Enraged, Yamaoka issues a final challenge using different ingredients. He serves lamb's brains, while Kaibara offers calf's brains. Although the taste is similar, Kyogoku declares Yamaoka the winner because lamb is more common in the Middle East, resolving the dispute.
