Ep. 19: Hachimaki and Cheng-Shin face divergent paths in the Von Braun crew selection process.
The Debris Section receives a reprieve following the destruction of the classified INTO mine. On Earth, Hachimaki and Cheng-Shin apply to join the Von Braun crew after tests hosted by Locksmith. Hachimaki enters the preliminary round, while Cheng-Shin is exempt due to his Technora employment. Unemployed and homeless, Hachimaki learns Hakim has also quit the OSA to become a candidate. Cheng-Shin urges Hachimaki to contact Tanabe, but he delays. The final preliminary test requires restoring life support in orbit within ten minutes using a pool simulation. During the test, one candidate accidentally cuts her oxygen tube and sinks. Hachimaki ignores the emergency to pass, whereas Cheng-Shin and another candidate rescue her. Cheng-Shin wishes Hachimaki well, but Hachimaki expresses anger that Cheng-Shin did not give the test his full effort.
