Seeking to improve his standing in the World Coronation Series, Ash, Pikachu, Goh, and Raboot travel to the Vermillion Gym to battle Lt. Surge. Finding the leader absent, they face the acting gym leader, Visquez. The contest is a two-on-two match where Ash sends out Pikachu against Visquez’s Raichu. Ash later switches to Gengar, who defeats Raichu. Visquez then sends out Electrode, which defeats Gengar, leaving Pikachu as the final contender. Meanwhile, Raboot observes the intense battle closely as the outcome hangs in the balance.
