Liko, Roy, and Dot question Friede about Cap’s flight after witnessing it during a battle with Roy. Friede recounts his youth, when he felt lost after leaving a dissatisfying job as a Pokémon researcher. His purpose returns when his former teacher, Lucca, introduces him to a wild Pikachu that uses its tail and Volt Tackle to fly. Friede befriends the bird-like Pokémon, learning it flies to view the morning horizon. This inspiration drives Friede to explore the world and study unique Pokémon. He enlists childhood friend Orla to construct the Brave Olivine from Ludlow’s seaboat. Friede appoints Pikachu as captain, establishing the Rising Volt Tacklers.
