Ash, Misty, and Brock discover an injured Charmander that has been waiting for its trainer. They overhear a trainer named Damien bragging about abandoning the Pokémon, prompting a confrontation that ends with Nurse Joy intervening. The group rushes to save Charmander from heavy rain and a flock of Pidgeotto, with Pikachu helping to scatter the attackers. After being taken to the Pokémon Center for an overnight stay, the Charmander disappears by morning. The friends wonder if the Pokémon remains loyal to Damien and if he will learn responsibility, while Team Rocket plots their next move.
