During a conflict with Team Rocket, Ash and his companions are ejected from the vessel transporting them to the Whirl Islands. They subsequently crash-land on Blue Point Isle. There, they encounter Professor Elm, who provides details regarding the Whirl Cup. This event is scheduled to occur in the center of the Whirl Islands. The group must now navigate their situation on the island while learning about the upcoming tournament that will take place in the surrounding waters.
