Pikachu narrowly avoids Magmar's Fire Blast but sustains injuries while hanging over a cliff. Ash realizes the Gym Badge is not worth risking his partner's life and forfeits the match to avoid disqualification. He vows to return to Cinnabar Island until he defeats both Blaine and Magmar to win the Volcano Badge. Team Rocket's interference threatens the island and its volcano, prompting Ash, his friends, and Blaine's Pokémon to cooperate and prevent an eruption. As gratitude, Blaine agrees to a rematch. Charizard challenges Magmar to a one-on-one battle, surprising everyone. Despite Ash appearing close to defeat, Charizard uses Seismic Toss to knock out Magmar, finally securing the Volcano Badge for Ash.
