While consuming riceballs prepared by Brock, Ash hears a shutter sound and mistakenly believes it is a gunshot. The noise actually originates from a camera owned by a photographer named Todd Snap. Todd had been hired by Team Rocket to capture Pikachu, but he mistakenly believes the organization wants him to photograph himself. Following this misunderstanding, Todd decides to join Ash and his companions on their journey. The group continues their travels together with the new photographer accompanying them.
