The group pauses near Nimbasa City and finds an injured Meowth, whom they nurse back to health after he reveals his dismissal from Team Rocket. Despite Pikachu’s lingering distrust, they allow Meowth to travel with them. Their journey is interrupted when a Scrafty kidnaps Axew, issuing threats against the child if pursued. Meowth proposes a negotiation, leading to a plan where he and Scraggy distract the attacker while the others rescue Axew. The conflict stems from Scrafty’s desperation after losing his home to a wild Mandibuzz and facing rejection from other Pokémon seeking to help him.
