Ash and his companions arrive at Cave Island, where they encounter Clair, the Gym Leader of Johto's Blackthorn City. She is searching for a unique-colored Druddigon located on the opposite side of the island from the port. However, her Dragonite has wandered off, leaving her without her partner. Upon locating the missing Dragonite, Iris's Dragonite immediately shows hostility toward it, leading to a confrontation between the two Pokémon. This unexpected fight disrupts Clair's efforts to locate the target Druddigon, complicating her mission significantly. The group must now navigate these interpersonal conflicts while attempting to continue their search for the rare creature amidst the chaos caused by the battling dragons.
