Following a shopping trip, Team Rocket meets Mareanie’s former mentor, a Toxapex harboring unresolved feelings for its ex-protégé. Consumed by jealousy, the Toxapex evolves and poisons James. While delirious from the toxin, James suggests Mareanie belongs with the Toxapex rather than himself. Mareanie overhears this and flees in sorrow. The Toxapex, unable to watch Mareanie cry, challenges James to a duel to reclaim it. The ensuing battle proves lackluster, yet James emerges victorious. Consequently, Mareanie happily reunites with James, resolving the romantic tension that had developed between the Pokémon and the Team Rocket member.
