Ash arrives on Ula'ula Island eager for his next grand trial, but Kahuna Nanu attempts to deceive him by claiming someone else holds the title. Acerola exposes Nanu’s ruse, prompting the reluctant Kahuna to agree to a pre-trial battle. Nanu remains unconvinced of Ash’s readiness and sends out his Krookodile, which decisively defeats Ash’s Lycanroc. Despite the loss, Ash refuses to give up. He vows to remain on the island to train rigorously in preparation for a rematch against Nanu.
