Recca, a teenage boy aspiring to become a ninja, encounters a beautiful girl named Yanagi at a construction site. He risks his life to save her and discovers that she possesses the ability to heal others. Consequently, he vows to protect her from harm. However, the mysterious Kagehoshi opposes this outcome and will not allow Recca to succeed in his mission. This encounter sets the stage for a conflict between Recca's protective instincts and the hidden agendas of Kagehoshi, highlighting the emergence of Yanagi's unique powers within the dangerous environment.

Fuuko accepts a mind-controlled wind artifact to challenge Recca in a dangerous night duel.

Fuuko Kirisawa becomes annoyed that Recca became a ninja on a whim and accepts the Fuujin from Kage Houshi. This wind-controlling device contains a mind control orb that allows Kage Houshi to manipulate her thoughts. Fuuko arranges a nighttime fight with Recca on the school grounds. Recca struggles initially until Yanagi informs Domon Ishijima of the situation, leading to his rescue. Recca eventually uses his fire powers to fight back against the mind-controlled Fuuko.

Recca and Domon defeat Fuuko and destroy the mind control orb, discovering that Kage Houshi cannot be killed. The following day, Tokiya Mikagami confronts Recca, who feigns ignorance. It is revealed that Kage Houshi misled Tokiya into believing Recca was connected to the men who murdered his sister in childhood. Tokiya later attacks Recca in a park using Ensui, a sword that manipulates water. As Recca faces death, Yanagi intervenes to stop the fight. Tokiya is shocked by Yanagi’s appearance, as she resembles his deceased sister. This encounter halts the immediate conflict between the two swordsmen, driven by Tokiya’s personal vendetta and the deceptive information provided by Kage Houshi.

Yanagi Heals Recca While Tokiya Lures Her to the Mirror House

Yanagi arrives and uses her powers to heal Recca, causing Tokiya to withdraw from the battle. Feeling guilty for relying on her help, Recca considers Yanagi's suggestion to visit an amusement park. While purchasing drinks, Tokiya intercepts Yanagi and leads her into the Mirror House. Recca confronts Tokiya to rescue her, and after a fierce struggle, Tokiya admits defeat. The narrative also reveals that Kage Houshi is Recca's biological mother, who forces them to fight each other to strengthen their power.
