Misao grieves the loss of four Oniwabanshū members and recalls her failed search for Aoshi. Aoshi meets Okina in a market, where Okina forbids him from leading the group due to his obsession with killing Kenshin. Sojiro and other Ten Swords members persuade Aoshi to join their cause to destroy Kenshin. Okina departs wearing his shinobi uniform, prompting Misao to rush to the temple to prevent a clash. She arrives too late to stop the fight. Aoshi defeats Okina using his Kaiten Kenbu Rokuren technique. Before dying, Okina warns Aoshi that he will kill Misao the next time they meet.
