Mattis boasts to the bedridden Noddle-Pete about the robbers' success as united tribes. Ronja and Birk notice seasonal changes in the forest as winter nears. Noddle-Pete appreciates the peace between clans while awaiting his end. Mattis worries about his health, but Lovis attributes it to old age. Noddle-Pete weakens despite Ronja's care and dies peacefully before winter. Mattis and the Mattis Robbers grieve deeply. In spring, Birk questions their future since they vowed never to become robbers. Ronja shares Noddle-Pete's secret: a silver cave shown by a gray dwarf he saved. Birk and Ronja choose to live in the Bear's Cave for spring, receiving Mattis' blessing. They venture out to enjoy their days, and Ronja greets the season with a shout.
