Ep. 23: Ronja and Birk Face Winter Cold and Mattis's Plea for Unity

Ronja wakes from a nightmare about Birk frozen in a lake as winter chill sets in. The pair struggle against the cold autumn air, with Birk noting Ronja must soon return to her family. Ronja finds Mattis crying by the river and weeps, running to her father who embraces her, calling her his child and asking her to stay. Ronja hesitates seeing Birk nearby. Mattis invites Birk to join them, citing Ronja’s fondness for him. Ronja confronts the scowling Birk alone, slapping him after he claims he would rather freeze than serve as Mattis's whipping boy. She declares life precious and vows not to leave him in the cave, preferring to freeze together. Birk agrees to follow her, and they leave the Bear Cave with Mattis. Birk departs to see his family, though Mattis permits the children to meet and play, suggesting their robber clans unite before each returns home.
