Following the Phantom incident, Star Bearer Barbara scolds her living-dolls for negligence despite the accident being caused by a loose trapdoor. Meanwhile, Mia discovers that her shadow-master Sarah has trashed her room, and Rum feels sad that her relationship with mistress Shirley has not improved. The next morning, the debutantes and their dolls meet Edward, the adult in charge of their debut, and notice shelves with figurines representing them. Edward plays the piano, leading Ricky to assume they must dance, but he instead places Patrick's figurine on a lower shelf and leaves them with the instruction to eat their sweets.
