Ricky and Lou encounter Shirley, after which Lou locates Louise by identifying the unique pattern of her soot emissions. Meanwhile, Emiliko and Rum navigate a walled maze section infested with scorches, which are malicious small creatures composed of soot. During this journey, Rum discloses that she chose her own name because Shirley never spoke to her or provided one. In a separate location, Kate remains suspended in a cage positioned above thorns, with her chains breaking sequentially. Additionally, Edward converses with the two other survivors from his debut, revealing his true motivations for organizing the current event.
