Apr 11, 2021Children drink coffee-colored beverages to pledge servitude to the Shadows House. A female Living Doll named Emilico awakens to serve her Shadow mistress, Kate. Emilico is optimistic and clumsy, contrasting with Kate’s quiet and reserved demeanor. Kate emits soot when anxious, which Emilico diligently cleans. The two gradually grow closer despite their differences. Emilico learns she will soon clean areas outside Kate’s room. Excited by this news, she looks out the window and sees a gloomy Doll glaring at her after she waves. This marks the beginning of their service and relationship within the household hierarchy.

Apr 18, 2021Emilico joins a cleaning squad with Mia, Lou, and Rosemary, learning that Dolls must ignore trivial matters. While cleaning Kate's room, Emilico accidentally ruins a precious stuffed doll, angering her master. Desperate to be useful, Emilico repairs the doll using soot emitted by Kate and sews a bird toy named Pan-chan from bread. Kate apologizes, and the two reconcile. Later, Emilico falls from a windowsill while retrieving Pan-chan. Kate breaks protocol to rescue her, but they encounter Mia and her Shadow mistress Sarah. Emilico is discouraged by Mia's perfect mimicry of Sarah, who deems her a failure. Kate comforts Emilico, praising her progress in protecting what matters. Before bed, Emilico starts a notebook to record forbidden thoughts and ponders the true nature of Shadows House. Meanwhile, Mia returns to a room filled with soot from Sarah.

Apr 25, 2021Emilico and Mia reunite with their squad, relieved by Mia’s recovery. Dolls serve as their Shadow master’s public face, a role critical for Rosemary and Mia’s debut. An alarm signals a Phantom, a harmful soot creature, which swallows Rosemary’s head. Emilico destroys it using water from a flower pot, but Rosemary suffers soot sickness, losing speech and mobility. Emilico learns Mia is literate and bears scars, unlike herself. Later, Kate discovers she can manipulate objects telekinetically using her emitted soot. She shares this secret with Emilico, noting that Shadow lore contains no record of such an ability.

A Faceless Doll frightens Rum, leading Emilico and Shaun to search for her. Emilico nearly dies in a booby trap at the house exit. They find Rum and discover the phantom was caused by a loose trapdoor leaking soot from the cellar. Meanwhile, Kate waits for Emilico to return so they can prepare for their debut together.

May 9, 2021Following the Phantom incident, Star Bearer Barbara scolds her living-dolls for negligence despite the accident being caused by a loose trapdoor. Meanwhile, Mia discovers that her shadow-master Sarah has trashed her room, and Rum feels sad that her relationship with mistress Shirley has not improved. The next morning, the debutantes and their dolls meet Edward, the adult in charge of their debut, and notice shelves with figurines representing them. Edward plays the piano, leading Ricky to assume they must dance, but he instead places Patrick's figurine on a lower shelf and leaves them with the instruction to eat their sweets.

Edward informs them they have two hours to rescue their shadow-masters and exit the maze. After reciting the rules, he permits each child to select one item from a provided selection to aid their quest, resulting in Emiliko choosing a wheeled cart. It is revealed that Edward is irritated because the children danced while he played the piano. Later, Emiliko and Rem team up, while John wanders the labyrinth after freeing himself. He eventually finds Kate and makes a shocking proposition.

May 23, 2021From the third floor of Shadows House, adult Shadows observe the Debutantes' progress through a labyrinth. Ricky pairs with Lou, while Emiliko and Rum encounter Patrick, who rudely declines their assistance. The two girls subsequently meet Shaun and must solve a puzzle involving small animal statues to open a gate. They then encounter Shaun's Shadow, John, and by combining their maps and tools, they discover hidden clues. As the group parts ways, Rem reveals her special ability to the others.

May 30, 2021Ricky and Lou encounter Shirley, after which Lou locates Louise by identifying the unique pattern of her soot emissions. Meanwhile, Emiliko and Rum navigate a walled maze section infested with scorches, which are malicious small creatures composed of soot. During this journey, Rum discloses that she chose her own name because Shirley never spoke to her or provided one. In a separate location, Kate remains suspended in a cage positioned above thorns, with her chains breaking sequentially. Additionally, Edward converses with the two other survivors from his debut, revealing his true motivations for organizing the current event.

Jul 4, 2021Edward intends to reveal Kate as an enemy of Shadow House to secure promotion to the third floor of Grandfather's wing. Disguised as a faceless doll, John seeks assistance from a small Morph but is spotted by Edward's companions. Kate and Emiliko flee with Morph's help, only to be cornered by Edward on a tower. They escape with John's aid, reuniting with Shaun, Ricky, and Patrick. Edward summons a large soot-bird to pursue them. The Children-Wing's Star Bearers intervene and witness the conflict. Lord Grandfather shows leniency toward Edward, who vows revenge. Meanwhile, a small Morph enters a faceless doll's cell as a train arrives with new children at Shadows House.
