Cheng realizes altering the basketball game did not change the timeline because the characters were destined to die. Lu Guang explains that death is an important node that cannot be changed. Ignoring this warning, Cheng tries to convince Chen's friends to flee their village to escape the earthquake, but fails. He then begs Lu Guang to let him save Chen's mother. Lu Guang agrees, but this consent is insincere, as the mother still dies. Cheng understands that Lu Guang knew this outcome and punches him in anger. Overcome with grief, Cheng collapses to his knees and cries into Lu Guang's chest. Later, Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang inform Qiao Ling that they are taking a break from entering photos. A police officer then arrives and inquires about the mystical activities they have been conducting.
