Saki's group traverses dangerous Tokyo tunnels and discovers an underground river. They divide forces: Satoru and Kiroumaru distract pursuers while Saki and Inui retrieve a submarine for river travel. A giant ragworm attacks them near the Psychobuster. Inui dies to allow Saki to proceed. She retrieves the vehicle from an abandoned building and departs at daybreak. Running through ruined Tokyo, Saki recovers memories of her final conversation with Shun. An image of adult Shun appears as her lost memories return, enabling her to continue the mission through the waterway.
