Dünste informs Denken and Frieren that Edel left the dungeon and mind control fails against replicas. Lawine and Kanne identify the enemy as a Spiegel with replicas lacking unique weaknesses. The group decides to defeat Frieren's replica first. Fern reveals Frieren's fatal weakness: she cannot detect mana while casting spells, a trait of beginner mages. Fern and Frieren are selected to fight the replica while others defend them. Frieren and her replica are evenly matched. Fern waits for an opening to use Zoltrakk. A flashback shows Frieren giving Serie a will from Flamme, which states Flamme convinced the human emperor to allow humans to adopt magic. Serie notes this begins the human era, where human mages may eventually surpass Elves like herself and Frieren. In the present, Fern hits the replica with a full-power Zoltrakk.
