Ep. 1: Castaway: Ensign Ledo stranded on Earth after failed mission against Hideauze

After humans establish Avalon and fight the Hideauze, Ensign Ledo is ejected into space following a failed attack. Six months later, the salvage ship Gargantia retrieves his AI partner, Chamber, from the ocean floor. Unable to dismantle the unit, the crew leaves it behind. Ledo emerges to gather intelligence on his location but kidnaps crew member Amy during the process. He is pursued outside, where he discovers the planet is habitable, a revelation that shocks him into releasing her. The crew restrains him on a pylon, and he activates Chamber, surprising everyone with the robot's ability to move and float independently.
