EP 1Castaway: Ensign Ledo stranded on Earth after failed mission against Hideauze
Apr 7, 2013After humans establish Avalon and fight the Hideauze, Ensign Ledo is ejected into space following a failed attack. Six months later, the salvage ship Gargantia retrieves his AI partner, Chamber, from the ocean floor. Unable to dismantle the unit, the crew leaves it behind. Ledo emerges to gather intelligence on his location but kidnaps crew member Amy during the process. He is pursued outside, where he discovers the planet is habitable, a revelation that shocks him into releasing her. The crew restrains him on a pylon, and he activates Chamber, surprising everyone with the robot's ability to move and float independently.
EP 2Ledo attempts communication while Amy reveals Earth's history and seeks his aid against pirates.
Apr 14, 2013Ledo remains pinned to a pylon, attempting to initiate dialogue with the locals. He requests that his crew speak with the Alliance, but they are confused and suspect that Chamber, the translator, is possessed by another entity. While Commander Ridget and the crew deliberate, Amy provides Ledo with food and begins a conversation. She explains that this location is Earth, which was once frozen before humans fled to space or remained behind. After the ice melted into a vast ocean, fleets formed to salvage ancient technology. Ridget dispatches Bellows to investigate the site where Chamber and Ledo were discovered, but Bellows' vessel is attacked by pirates. Amy asks Ledo for assistance, and he agrees to gain their trust. He boards Chamber and swiftly eliminates the pirates without damaging the ship or harming the crew, leaving Amy and the others shocked by his immense destructive capability.
EP 3Ledo defends Gargantia from Lukkage's fleet while reconciling with Amy and crew.
Apr 21, 2013Following the pirate attack, Ledo faces Amy's criticism while Gargantia leaders anticipate retaliation. Pirate survivor Lukkage learns of the incident and mobilizes a fleet to strike. Bellows and Amy explain to Ledo that weapons are last resorts, emphasizing mutual reliance for survival. After reconciling with Ledo, the approaching fleet is spotted. Ledo negotiates with Ridget to assist in exchange for acceptance aboard the fleet. Ordered to avoid casualties, Ledo disables the front-line ships and returns to counter Lukkage's sneak attack in her custom yumboro, the "Surfing Lobster". Ledo swiftly defeats Lukkage, causing the pirates to retreat. Saluted by the crew, Ledo greets Amy using the native phrase "Thank You".
EP 4Ledo receives a bill for damage, carves a flute, and recalls a memory with Bevel
Apr 28, 2013Ledo faces an invoice for damage caused by Chamber, though Ridget waives living expenses. While Chamber assists workers, Ledo sculpts a Hideauze claw and gifts it to Amy, who gives it to her brother Bevel. Amy leads Ledo to Dr. Oldham, who explains that Gargantia cannot help him return to space due to lost technology. During rain, Ledo helps collect water. He meets Bevel, who plays the carved object, now recognized as a flute. This triggers a forgotten memory, causing Ledo to cry. He asks Bevel to return the flute and considers learning more about his surroundings, while Chamber notes he must eventually leave everything behind to return to his unit.
EP 5Ledo and friends enjoy a rare calm day swim and party before work resumes.
May 5, 2013Ledo seeks employment while Chamber remains on standby, but finds no suitable positions. The Gargantia halts for maintenance during a calm day, granting workers a day off. Pinion, despite being a repairman, invites Ledo, Amy, Melty, and Saya for a swim. Unable to cook due to an energy shortage, Pinion sends Ledo on an errand. Other fleet members arrive, and Amy challenges Ledo to a race up a tower. During the race, Amy protects Ledo from men attempting to hire him. The group returns to the party, where Ledo delivers a bottle of sauce Pinion requested. Ledo learns Pinion organized the gathering to lift his spirits after his job search failed. He enjoys the event until the wind returns, ending the calm day. Amy then accompanies Ledo as he continues his search for work.
EP 6Ledo navigates fishing and salvage offers while misidentifying food as an enemy during a festival.
May 12, 2013Ledo attempts to work as a fisherman but cannot pilot a standard yumboro, so he directs Chamber to assist the crew instead. Pinion invites Ledo to lunch and offers him a position on his crew, while Bellows simultaneously offers him a job with her salvage team. During the festivities, Amy and her friends dance for the crowd. Ledo mistakes a cooked octopus for a Hideauze and prepares to shoot it until others clarify it is food. After Chamber causes a mess, Ledo uses his mecha to help the fishermen secure a good catch. That night, Amy spends time alone with Ledo, bringing them closer. When natural ocean lighting triggers Ledo’s alert state, he arms himself to protect Amy until she calms him and dances for him. The next day, Ledo works smoothly with Bellows until Chamber identifies an underwater creature as a Hideauze, prompting Ledo to abandon his duties to confront it.
EP 7Ledo kills a sacred whalesquid, prompting Pinion and Flange to plan secession after Fairlock suffers a heart attack.
May 19, 2013Ledo kills a whalesquid, a sacred earthling animal, sparking rumors of misfortune aboard the Gargantia. Chamber analyzes the creature and deduces that whalesquids and Hideauze have learned to coexist, contradicting Ledo’s belief that they are enemies. Meanwhile, Pinion intends to recruit Ledo to explore whalesquid territory for treasure, driven by a desire for revenge against the creatures that killed his older brother. Bellows attempts to dissuade Pinion, but his ulterior motive remains hidden. As Chamber confirms the biological similarity between whalesquids and Hideauze, Ledo resolves to exterminate them despite Amy’s objections. When a large group approaches the Gargantia, Commander Fairlock orders all machinery and lights shut down to avoid provoking the creatures. Amy tries to stop Ledo from engaging, but he only stands down when Ridget points a gun at him. The whalesquids pass safely. Ledo rejects Amy’s perspective, while Pinion informs Fairlock of his plan to leave. Flange declares he will join Pinion. As both prepare to secede, Fairlock attempts to dissuade them but suffers a heart attack.
EP 8Fairlock's death leads to Ridget's succession and the Gargantia fleet's impending separation.
May 26, 2013Fairlock dies without resistance, naming Ridget his successor. Chamber reveals their civilization's location is too distant, meaning distress signals may take thousands of years to reach anyone. During Fairlock's funeral, dissident ships prepare to detach from the Gargantia following Pinion's plan. Melty chooses to depart with them. Saaya asks Amy if she will leave with Ledo, but Amy refuses, stating she cannot abandon her brother. Bevel attempts to dissuade Ledo from leaving, noting Amy's distress. Ledo explains his motivation to destroy the Hideauze stems from a desire to protect both Amy and Bevel. Ridget avoids the funeral to find a way to keep the fleet together, but Bellows reminds her she has the fleet's support. Ridget bids farewell to Fairlock's body as it is sent to the waters and asks the Gargantia members for their backing. Amy watches in devastation as the dissident ships, including Ledo, depart.
EP 9Ledo discovers the truth about Hideauze origins during an assault on the whalesquid nest
Jun 2, 2013Ledo leads an attack on the whalesquid nest with Pinion's crew, easily defeating the enemies using depth charges. During an investigation of an ancient facility, he accesses records revealing that the Hideauze were originally humans who genetically modified themselves to survive in space, calling themselves Evolvers. A human faction viewed this as blasphemy and declared war, leading to the current conflict after both groups abandoned Earth during the fifth ice age, leaving only the ancestors of present-day humans and whalesquid behind. Devastated by this history, Ledo cries out in despair when Chamber kills a human-sized Hideauze child without his consent. Upon returning to the Gargantia, Bebel and Amy display clear signs of missing him.
EP 10Pinion claims salvaged tech for his fleet while Ledo faces Kugel's return.
Jun 9, 2013After eliminating local Hideauze, Pinion and his crew recover unique ancient technology. Rejecting plans to share it with humanity, Pinion declares exclusive rights to the find and warns other fleets to stay away. This message reaches the Gargantia, which has recently reorganized, raising fears that other ships might defect to Pinion’s side. Pinion’s fleet subsequently defeats a hostile pirate group, who then request to join his ranks, a request he grants. Meanwhile, Chamber reveals to Ledo that the lightbugs used as a power source were also created by the Hideauze, validating their discoveries. Ledo questions the necessity of continuing the war given these insights. The Machine Caliber responds that coexistence is impossible because the Galactic Alliance and Hideauze are fundamentally different; one perfected civilization while the other abandoned it, making conflict inevitable. Chamber then alerts Ledo to a transmission from a Galactic Alliance vessel. As a large fleet approaches, Ledo spots Commander Kugel’s Machine Caliber at the forefront, confirming that Kugel is alive.
EP 11Kugel summons Ledo and Pinion to his fleet while revealing his secret war against the Hideauze.
Jun 16, 2013Kugel contacts Ledo, ordering his return, and reveals he suffers from an illness that confines him to his cockpit. Ledo shares his findings on the Hideauze, prompting Kugel to admit the Galactic Alliance high command knew of the threat but chose to fight. Kugel discloses he has been secretly organizing a powerful fleet within a militaristic society to unite all humans on Earth. Pinion is summoned to this fleet by Lukkage, who now serves under Kugel. A Machine Caliber Striker offers Pinion a position as an engineer to develop weapons for the fleet. The rest of Pinion's companions are also forced to join Kugel's forces. Later, Kugel discusses the next phase of his plan with Ledo, revealing a large-scale operation that surprisingly involves the Gargantia.
EP 12Ledo confronts Kugel as Pinion and Lukkage prepare for rebellion
Jun 23, 2013Kugel’s fleet readies an assault on the Gargantia, prompting Ledo to unsuccessfully attempt dissuasion. Meanwhile, Lukkage approaches Pinion to plan a fleet rebellion. Disturbed by the crew discarding the sick and fearing for Bebel, Ledo resolves to face Kugel alone. Pinion arms Chamber, while Lukkage and Flange prepare for the uprising. Ledo sends Melty to deliver a message to the Gargantia, but she collapses from exhaustion and is saved by Amy. Upon learning of the attack, the Gargantia crew debates abandoning the fleet. Amy urges intervention, leading Oldham to direct Ridget to use Fairlock’s special key. The rebellion erupts as Ledo battles Kugel with Pinion’s aid, while Lukkage’s pirates strike the soldiers. Ledo pins Kugel and opens the cockpit, discovering the commander has been dead for a long time.
EP 13Ledo merges with Chamber to defeat Striker, then joins Gargantia survivors with Amy.
Jun 30, 2013Striker claims Kugel’s posthumous orders required humans to worship it for fleet stability, but Ledo and Chamber refuse and resolve to destroy it. Unable to win directly, Ledo plans to merge his nervous system with Chamber, sacrificing his life. Amy intervenes, urging him not to fight alone. Meanwhile, Ridget activates an ancient mass driver on the Gargantia to bombard the enemy fleet. Pinion attempts to destroy relics and attackers aboard his salvage vessel but is saved by Lukkage. Striker targets the Gargantia, prompting Ledo and Chamber to pursue. Ledo reveals his true desire is to survive and return to the Gargantia with Amy. Chamber ejects him to safety and destroys Striker in a suicide attack. Later, Lukkage and Kugel’s fleet survivors join the Gargantia. Ledo works as a salvager, studying whalesquids to foster communication, and appears to be in a relationship with Amy. A whalesquid larva attaches to Chamber in the ocean.
