While the Esperanza traverses the Atlantic Ocean, Esteban learns that Zia was abducted from her village at a young age. The Spaniards intend to return her to her homeland, hoping she will guide them to the legendary Cities of Gold. Their journey is interrupted when Gaspard, the captain of the guard, discovers them and accuses them of being stowaways. Mendoza steps in to defend the children, creating conflict with Gaspard and his superiors, Captain Perez and Commander Gomez. The episode concludes with a mini-documentary detailing Christopher Columbus's voyage to find a new sea route to India.
