A typhoon destroys the Esperanza, forcing Captain Perez and the crew to abandon the vessel. Mendoza, his companions Pedro and Sancho, and the children are left to survive on their own. The group constructs a raft to escape the sinking ship. During their time adrift, Esteban discovers that Zia's father is an Incan high priest who might assist him in locating his own father. The castaways eventually reach the shore of an unknown island. The episode concludes with a mini-documentary segment discussing the dangers of sailing and the phenomenon known as St. Elmo's Fire.
