Kalmec aids his leader to the Olmec base, activating the solar reactor with the solar unit, but Menator dies from injuries shortly after. A meltdown begins, killing Kalmec and shaking the City of Gold. The high priest warns that the reactor must be shut down or it will burn through the Earth. To stop it, Tao's golden jar must be inserted into the device. The children accompany the priest to the mountain, while Mendoza discovers the priest is an impostor; the real high priest died years ago. The masked man is revealed to be a traveler from the sea and Esteban's father. As the city crumbles, Gomez and Gaspard die hoarding gold. The priest inserts the jar, stopping the machine, though his fate remains uncertain. The City of Gold is destroyed, but the children retain the Golden Condor. Esteban, Zia, and Tao decide to fly west toward the Pacific Ocean. Mendoza promises to see Esteban again, perhaps in the Barcelona tavern where they first met. Earlier, Kalmec wounded Athanaos and stole the treasure from the Burning Shield, a concentrated Sun-Power source endangering the world. The episode concludes with a mini-documentary recapping the New World's exotic elements and mentioning Percy Fawcett, the last explorer to search for El Dorado.
