In Belken, Guy meets Van, his former student, and dismisses him after Van refuses to abandon his plans. The team travels to Daath to measure a Sephiroth tree, encountering Anise's mother who shields Ion from Arietta's attack, sparing herself minor injury. This event triggers Guy's traumatic memory of his family's death, explaining his fear of women. Ion analyzes the score, noting Luke's replica was not original, and locates a tree in Tataroo Valley. During the journey, Guy saves Anise from a cliff, realizing he touched a female. At the tree, Tear restarts the passage ring by circling it, but Luke finds her kneeling in apparent pain as Guy takes measurements.
