Junior-high student Ran Isozaki begins hearing voices from a mysterious girl while experiencing strange events in town. She confides in her childhood friend Rui Ayase, who recalls past instances of her ability and explains her two cats. Ran also sees memories of the girl’s traumatic childhood and abandonment. At school, homeroom teacher Momoko Ōhara introduces the girl as transfer student Midori Naha. Midori sits at the back and telepathically tells Ran that friendship is pointless. Midori tests Ran’s abilities, leading to a confrontation that reveals Ran’s telekinesis. The group discovers that Rui can suppress Ran’s unrefined powers, stabilizing her abilities during their interactions.
