Ran aced a test she did not study for, shocking her friend Saeko. Ran hears Saeko’s silent thoughts and is called a freak for reading her mind. Midori warns Ran about the dangers of her powers. Saeko is abducted from the library, and Ran cannot hear Rui’s thoughts. A controlled dog attacks them, but Rui breaks the controller, amplifying Ran’s powers to stun the beast. Ran chases a masked figure and meets Midori, who warns she will be called a monster. Ran retorts that Rui still likes her, causing Midori to flee. Meanwhile, Rin boasts about solving town mysteries involving mind control. Ran detects Rui’s abduction and races to save him with Rin.
