Pico and Vince faced pressure from fathers and teachers to attend local technical college, angering Rick who felt betrayed by their abandoned dreams. Before reconciliation, Rick died in a car accident on the day Pico and Vince attended a career day for the mines. Distraught and angered by his death, they reaffirmed their resolve to become astronauts, believing life is too short for unexciting pursuits. In the present, Azuma and his group arrive at the moon base, where he reunites with Hibito, who thanks him for saving his life. Mutta, Kenji, and Nitta watch this reunion on TV. As the Comeback Competition approaches, Pico warns Mutta and Kenji that previous night's rainfall could cause major issues with the sponge tires, leaving them only an hour to address the worst-case scenario.
