Ep. 22: Miyu's childhood tragedy and awakening of shinma guardian powers
Aired on March 2, 1998

22
Miyu’s father died when she was under fourteen, leaving her mother distraught. Magician Kitjutsushi invited Miyu to join his magic show after she met his daughter, Reiha. Miyu rehearsed a skit with them, unaware it was a ritual to awaken her shinma guardian abilities, a fact later revealed by her mother. The magician Tonbi, a shinma who transforms from a man named Black Kite, killed Kitjutsushi. Tonbi subsequently murdered Miyu’s mother, prompting Miyu to unleash her fire powers and banish him into darkness. Following these events, Miyu dedicated herself to a journey of casting all stray shinmas into the darkness.
