Ep. 9: Vanitas and Noé escape Fortis to confront Moreau, the scientist who experimented on Vanitas.
Fortis recognizes Vanitas as Noé's companion and attacks Noé with enhanced abilities, but Vanitas frees himself from his cell and wounds Fortis to allow their escape. The pair must collaborate to defeat Fortis and the Chasseurs, though they dispute their strategy. Vanitas reveals he seeks Moreau, the man who experimented on him after the Chasseurs took him in as an orphan. Noé feigns taking Vanitas hostage to delay Fortis, eventually defeating him and explaining their purpose. Fortis discloses that Moreau has been cast out and offers to ally with Noé upon learning Moreau is alive and likely continuing his vampire experiments. Vanitas guides the group through secret passages to Moreau's former laboratory, where Moreau welcomes back number "69".
