Askeladd dispatches the stubborn Thorfinn to convey a message to the commander of a French military force that recently failed to capture a fortress. Despite an initially difficult negotiation, Thorfinn successfully persuades the leader, Jabbathe, to reach an agreement. The subsequent day sees the army launching another assault on the French fortification. With crucial assistance provided by Askeladd’s men, the forces manage to overcome the defenses and successfully conquer the stronghold.
