Ep. 9: Kotone's mother seeks a shrine priestess to remove a family curse, but the ritual fails fatally.

A mother tells her teenage daughter, Kotone, that she found someone who might remove a curse on Kotone's body. Despite hesitation from past failures, Kotone agrees. They visit a Shinto shrine where the priestess claims ancestors' enemies caused the curse and performs a ritual that night, appearing to cure Kotone. The next day, relief turns to horror when the priestess' aide calls to report the priestess was killed. The aide relays the priestess' final words, lamenting her failure to help. As the mother receives this news, the curse mark simultaneously appears on Kotone's neck while she is on her way to school, resulting in Kotone's death.
