Ep. 8: Yugiri gains freedom in Meiji Japan and meets Kiichi Momozaki who seeks to restore Saga Prefecture.
Aired on May 27, 2021

In Meiji Era Japan, oiran Yugiri is freed by a wealthy patron in Yoshiwara and relocates to the former Saga Prefecture area, now part of Nagasaki after the 1874 Saga Rebellion. Her patron dies, leaving her isolated until she encounters Kiichi Momozaki, a local man dedicated to restoring Saga’s independent prefecture status. Kiichi gifts Yugiri, who accepts, and later visits him to repay the gesture. She discovers his motivation stems from gratitude toward the man who raised him after his father died in the uprising, inspiring her to assist. Kiichi’s friend Itou warns that further conflict is inevitable. Their campaign eventually draws the attention of a group of former samurai.
