In 1952, 11-year-old Chizuru relocates with her father, his new wife, and her younger brother to Nochiu in Hokkaido, a region with significant Ainu heritage. They stay in a guest house on the land of her father's friend, whose family includes two twins, Takeshi and Shizuko, Chizuru’s age. Chizuru, who has been mute since surviving a Tokyo air raid that killed her mother and older brother, experiences recurring dreams of a forest where someone calls her name. Upon meeting Shizuko, she recognizes the voice from her dreams. The story explores why Shizuko appears in Chizuru’s dreams and what hidden truths may be connected to them.
